What Kind of Photography Do I Do?

If you’ve spent any time browsing my website, you’ve probably already noticed that dogs are a big part of what I photograph.

I’m a dog photographer and a portrait photographer, with a particular passion for creating beautiful, timeless portraits of dogs and the people who love them. Whether you’re looking for a classic studio portrait of your dog, photographs of the two of you together, or an outdoor pet photography session, that’s where much of my work is focused.

But dog photography is not the only kind of portrait photography I offer.

Dog Photography Is My Specialty

Dogs have always been my favourite subjects to photograph, and I love creating portraits that show their individual personalities.

Some sessions are all about the dog — a beautiful portrait of a beloved companion just as they are. Other sessions include their people, because sometimes the most meaningful photograph is the one that shows the relationship between you.

My approach to dog photography is not about creating a collection of quick snapshots. I’m interested in creating portraits that feel purposeful, timeless and worthy of being displayed in your home. That might be a single framed portrait, a collection of prints, a wall display, or an album filled with favourite images.

More Than Pet Photography

Although dogs make up the majority of my work, I also enjoy pet photography and portrait photography with other animals and people.

I’m always happy to photograph cats, and I especially enjoy opportunities to work with horses. Equine portraits can be completely different from studio dog photography, particularly when we’re working outdoors and making use of beautiful Maritime light.

I also photograph people without pets. Individual portraits, personal branding-style portraits, milestone portraits and simply having a beautiful photograph of yourself all have a place in my studio.

In other words, while I may be known primarily as a dog photographer, my work is really centered around portraits.

Studio and Outdoor Photography

Most of my photography sessions take place in my home studio, where I can create a classic, controlled portrait setting.

Studio photography works especially well for dogs because we can concentrate on the connection between the subject and the camera without distractions. It also gives me the freedom to create a more polished, carefully designed portrait.

Outdoor sessions are also available when the weather cooperates. Living in the Maritimes means we sometimes have to work around the weather, but when the conditions are right, outdoor dog photography, horse photography and portrait sessions can produce beautiful results.

Why I Focus on Prints

Another important part of my photography business is that I’m primarily a print photographer.

Digital photographs certainly have their place, but my goal is not simply to hand you a gallery of files and send you on your way.

I want your photographs to become something you actually see and enjoy.

A favourite image deserves more than sitting on a phone or disappearing into a computer folder. It deserves a place on your wall, on a shelf, or in an album where you can enjoy it for years.

That is why I specialize in creating photographic artwork for your home or office, from individual prints and wall displays to albums.

Digital images are available as well, but the clients who are the best fit for my work are generally people who want to have their photographs printed and displayed.

A More Focused Photography Business

As of summer 2026, I’ve made some changes to the types of photography I offer.

After many years of photographing a wide variety of events, I’m phasing out most weddings, large family gatherings and corporate events so I can focus my time and creative energy on portrait photography.

That means more of what I love most: dogs, people, horses, cats and meaningful portraits.

So, what kind of photography do I do?

As you now know, I’m a portrait photographer of dogs, people and all pets, with a strong focus on creating finished photographic artwork rather than simply providing digital images.

Whether you’re looking for a classic studio portrait of your dog, a photograph of you and your best friend, an equine portrait, or simply a beautiful portrait of yourself, the goal is always the same: To provide you with photographs you’ll still love years from now.
