Prom week has come and gone for 2015. This year, the camera and I attended a junior high prom and later in the week tagged along as a young man in grade twelve readied himself for his special night. It's certainly an interesting time. For the 14-15 year olds, it's a chance to try on a new look and step into a more mature role for a few hours. For their parents, it's often that first "Oh" moment, as they realize their babies have suddenly turned into young men and women.
For senior high students, the prom and graduation exercises can play such a poignant role in their transition from high school student to adult. Yes, many will go on to community college/university, but more will immediately begin their lives as working adults. For them, this is the last hurrah of adolescence before donning the responsibilities of independence and embarking on a whole new journey. I wish them all the luck and happiness in the world!
